Strathcona County has earned a third consecutive Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Achievement, this time for its 2016 Annual Report: “LEADING. LIVABLE. A new lens to guide us forward.”
Awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), the Strathcona County 2016 Annual Report met the high standards of the program. The award recognizes excellence in government accounting and financial reporting. It encourages comprehensive annual financial reports that “evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure,” and tell the municipality’s financial story in a clear and interesting way.
The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Program was established in 1986 to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high quality financial reports. The program also provides peer recognition and technical guidance in report preparation.
The Municipal Government Act requires that every Alberta municipality prepare a financial information return and annual audited financial statements. Strathcona County annual reports present to citizens, orders of government and others the municipality’s financial stewardship and shares highlights of the County’s progress over a fiscal year.
