Grade One students celebrate Arbor Day

In celebration of Arbor Day, Strathcona County’s Grade One students’ tree-inspired artwork will be featured in the Gallery@501 window display. Grade One students will also receive a seedling and enjoy educational activities on Arbor Day, Friday May 6, 2016 at Broadmoor Lake Park.

The Arbor Day activities educate students about the importance of trees in our everyday lives. Alberta Environment and Parks supplies the seedlings province-wide. Many of the students take their seedlings home to plant to watch them grow and flourish for years to come.

Grade One classes were also invited to participate in a leaf decorating contest. This year’s winning school, New Horizons was chosen out of 14 other schools entered into the contest.

The winning class will be treated to a field trip to the Strathcona Wilderness Centre where they will enjoy an all-day outdoor adventure and learn more about nature and the environment. A tree will also be planted at their school to commemorate Arbor Day.

Residents are invited to view the artwork display from May 2-15, 2016 in the Gallery@501, at the Community Centre. Arbor Day in Strathcona County is proudly sponsored by Enbridge Pipelines Inc.
