Empower your business! Small Business Week Kickoff Symposium is October 19

Small business owners are invited to attend the fourth annual Small Business Week Kickoff Symposium on Monday, October 19.

Agenda includes:

  • welcome from Mayor Roxanne Carr
  • keynote by Angus Watt (First National Bank) on challenges and opportunities in the new Canada
  • three panel discussions: digital marketing, succession planning, and recruitment and retention
  • 20 business development organizations on site.

The event is designed to support small businesses, which account for a significant amount of local economic activity and job creation in Strathcona County. There are 11,684 business establishments in the County, of which 10,417 are considered either self-employment, micro-sized (one to four employees) or small businesses (five to 49 employees). These small businesses are estimated to employ over 24,000 people, approximately 48 per cent of the jobs. There is one micro-sized business per 9.1 residents.
