Preschool children and their families are invited to bring their sleds and sense of adventure for an evening of tobogganing and winter activities in celebration of Strathcona County Parent Link’s tenth year anniversary.

On February 18, 2015, families are invited to enjoy free outdoor activities from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Woodbridge Farms Park, 1127 Parker Drive, Sherwood Park. Outdoor activities include snow painting, s’mores, sledding, snowshoeing and skating (weather permitting). A light meal and cake will be served in the nearby AJ Ottewell Community Centre, 590 Broadmoor Blvd from 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. The meal is free, however, residents are asked to preregister by calling 780-416-6730 for planning purposes.

The Strathcona County Parent Link Centre was one of five early leaders, when the province began piloting this project in spring 2005. During its first year, the Strathcona County Parent Link Centre offered three program locations throughout the County, serving 369 children and parents. Now in its tenth year, Parent Link has grown to nine program locations and numerous park locations throughout the summer months, while supporting nearly 3,000 children and parents.

The Strathcona County Parent Link Centre is part of a provincial network of family resource centres offering five core services: early childhood development programs, parent education programs, family support services, information and referral services and developmental screening. Since 2004, the Parent Link Centre initiative has grown from serving approximately 6,000 Albertans to over 94,000 by 2014.
