Youth invited to try out their 55+ Games skills

Strathcona County Youth are invited to celebrate 100 Days to the Games on Saturday, May 17 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the indoor field in Millennium Place.

Youth can enter to win prizes, enjoy free cake and try out a few of the 24 activities featured in the 2014 Canada 55+ Games, with a twist! Activities include GIANT Bowling, Dill-Pickleball, RADminton, Addicted to Predicted Walk and more. Admission is FREE for youth in Grades 7 to 12.

“This is a fun way to link our youth with the 55+ generation,” says Mayor Roxanne Carr. “Through playful events like this, we are able to reflect the Canada 55+ Games slogan that Happiness is Health.”

“As we celebrate 100 Days to the Canada 55+ Games we are excited to share the joys of lifelong recreation with the youth of Strathcona County,” says Games Chair, Margaret Marciak, “An important component of the Games is celebrating the social, physical and mental well-being that comes from staying active.”

The 2014 Canada 55+ Games are on August 27 to 30 and will bring over 2,500 participants and their families from across Canada to Strathcona County to compete in 24 different sports and activities ranging from hockey to bocce. Community support continues to grow for the Games with new sponsors Christenson Developments, Richoh Canada, Sherwood Park News, Three Seasons Landscaping, Brownlee LLP and Suncor now on board.
