WHEREAS Canada Safety Council has identified the third week in May as National Road Safety Week; and

WHEREAS safe roads are essential to a caring and livable community; and

WHEREAS there have been 60 fatal and 347 major injury collisions in Strathcona County on municipal and provincial roads in the last ten years; and

WHEREAS Strathcona County is committed to create an increasingly safe and sustainable transportation network; and

WHEREAS our vision is that no one will be seriously injured or killed while travelling on Strathcona County’s road network; and

WHEREAS a week promoting road safety will help build the awareness needed to reach our vision;

NOW THEREFORE I,Mayor Roxanne Carr, do hereby proclaim May 15 – 21, 2017 as “Road Safety Week” in Strathcona County.
