WHEREAS every June, Albertans will recognize and celebrate the year-round benefits of quality recreation and parks at the local, regional and provincial levels; and

WHEREAS recreation enhances quality of life; develops skills and positive self-image in children and youth; develops creativity; and builds healthy bodies and positive lifestyles; and

WHEREAS the Strathcona County Recreation, Parks and Culture department works with various community groups and agencies to provide quality services and information on the benefits of recreation; and

WHEREAS in Strathcona County, we encourage residents to lead an active and healthy lifestyle year-round; and

WHEREAS with the declaration of the Provincial Recreation and Parks Benefits Charter by the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA), along with the official endorsement by the provincial government;

NOW THEREFORE I,Mayor Roxanne Carr, do hereby proclaim the month of June, 2017 as ‘Recreation and Parks Month’ in Strathcona County.
