WHEREAS Mr. Belcourt has spent his lifetime enriching the communities he has lived and worked in through his entrepreneurial and philanthropic spirit; and

WHEREAS Mr. Belcourt has excelled professionally and chosen to give back to his community through support for education or access to affordable housing; and

WHEREAS raising awareness for Aboriginal issues have always been the forefront of Mr. Belcourt’s drive and determination; andWHEREAS                 positive efforts made by Mr. Belcourt have been recognized through 20 personal awards, honours and distinctions in recognition of his community service and generosity; and

WHEREAS these honours include the Order of Canada, the Premier’s Leadership Award, an honourary degree and doctorate, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business’ Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS Mr. Belcourt has tirelessly given his time and energy to ensure every community he has lived or worked in has been left a better place for his contributions;

NOW THEREFORE I, Mayor Roxanne Carr, do hereby proclaim January 24, 2017 as “Herb Belcourt Day” in the Specialized Municipality of Strathcona County.
