Presentations to Council and Priorities Committee
Council and Priorities Committee (75.6 KB) , which includes all members of Council, hold several meetings each month, typically scheduled on Tuesdays. Staff in Legislative and Legal Services coordinate and prepare the meeting agendas for Council and Priorities Committee.

Dates and times of Council and Priorities Committee meetings are advertised in the local newspaper and are posted on our website. These meetings are held in Council Chamber on the main floor of the Community Centre, 2001 Sherwood Drive in Sherwood Park. All Council and Priorities Committee meetings are open to the public unless a particular item falls under one of the exemptions provided in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The agendas and reports for Council and Priorities Committee meetings are posted to the County's website a week in advance (typically this means the Wednesday prior to the Tuesday of the meeting date).
Most public hearings deal with land use planning and development and are required by the Municipal Government Act. Public hearings enable residents who might be affected by a proposed bylaw to provide direct input to Council. Public hearings are held on Tuesdays at either 5 pm or 7 pm during regular Council meetings and are advertised in the local newspaper.
We encourage anyone interested in speaking at a Public Hearing to register by emailing LegislativeOfficer@Strathcona.ca or calling 780-464-8014 by 4:00 pm the day before the hearing. Please be sure to provide your full name, the bylaw number, and indicate if you are in favour or opposed to the proposed bylaw when you register. You may also add your name to the speaker's list at the public hearing; however, those who registered prior to the hearing will be heard first. All speakers will have up to five minutes for making their presentation to Council. Written submissions are also accepted for public hearings and will be distributed to all of Council.
Please note that public hearings, including presentations made by speakers, are recorded. The meetings are made available for viewing on the County’s public website and the names of presenters along with a brief description of their position is included in the meeting minutes. All written submissions for public hearings are also made available for public viewing.
The Priorities Committee may receive public presentations from individuals, groups, organizations, or external agencies; however, political parties, political representatives, and unions may not provide public presentations. Any requests to make a public presentation must be made in writing to the Director of Legislative and Legal Services (c/o LegislativeOfficer@strathcona.ca) at least 21 days prior to a Priorities Committee meeting. Requests received less than 21 days before a Priorities Committee meeting will be included on the agenda for the next available Priorities Committee meeting. Public presentations are limited to a maximum of 15 minutes and may provide special recognition of persons, organizations and events, award presentations, or reports of interest to the County and Committee. Public presentation topics must be relevant to a matter that is within the County's jurisdiction.
The Open House session provides an opportunity for Strathcona County residents, business owners, and other ratepayers to make a presentation to the Committee on a variety of topics within the County’s jurisdiction. Presentations are limited to a maximum of five minutes and presenters may only address the same topic once in a given year. Anyone wishing to make a presentation must register before 4:00 pm the day before the Priorities Committee meeting by contacting Legislative Officer at LegislativeOfficer@strathcona.ca or by phone at 780-464-8014. Please note that the names and topics of speakers for Open House are included in the meeting minutes and as part of the meeting webcast.
