Job Description

This posting is for 1 hourly position

This position is responsible for scheduling, teaching, evaluating and supervising Health Care Aides and Home Help in Lodge and community settings. This supervisor position provides nursing guidance and direction to staff as required. 



  • Assign daily client visits in response to care changes, staff vacation request and staff illness and emergencies
  • Prepare biweekly schedule and approve time sheets for processing
  • Provide initial intake for all Albert Health Service (AHS) lodge clients and private community clients
  • Process authorizations from AHS to provide personal care and specialized tasks
  • Provide initial home visits for private clients to assess needs, discuss program and other resources available and assess any safety/security issues
  • Complete care plans, outlining required care for clients and communicates information to staff
  • Ensure proper medications, documentation, authorizations and care plan are in place
  • Ensure competency of Health Care Aides and Home Help staff in performing duties as outlined on client care plans
  • Evaluate the performance of the Health Care Aides and Home Help and provides ongoing direction and supervision
  • Maintain client charts on a daily basis, including reassessing and evaluating the effectiveness of care clans and updating information as required
  • Liaise with AHS Care Managers, Lodge Managers, clients, families and staff regarding client care and changing client needs
  • Assist with staff training as well as develops new standards and procedures to ensure safe quality client care based on best practices

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision, make safe and appropriate decisions quickly, and recognize when direction or assistance is required
  • Exceptional organizational abilities and flexibility with changing demands of the position
  • Ability to work with computerized scheduling software and knowledge of various software applications
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with a range of staff as well as difficult people
  • Knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) act and the Health Information Act (HIA)
  • Ability to teach and supervise staff according to CLPNA regulations


  • Current and active registration in the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience in an institutional and or community setting
  • Previous experience with supervising or leading staff
  • Previous experience with scheduling software would be preferred
  • Current CPR certification would be considered an asset

Conditions of Employment

  • Submission of Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
  • Flexible availability, willingness to work on-call weekends and evenings
  • Access to reliable vehicle is required
