This posting is for 1 temporary full-time position up to 18 months
The Utilities Accounting Analyst is responsible for creating and analyzing reports, preparing regular invoices in accordance with third-party contracts, as well as independently investigating financial discrepancies, errors or potential issues.
This role is responsible for month end financial activities such as preparation of journal entries and operating and capital reports. It is also responsible for various other transactions such as invoicing, cash deposits, and ad-hoc information requests.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly and quarterly operating reports for management and help investigate variances
- Prepare capital reports to analyze expenditures and budget variances; and prepare other capital reports as required
- Prepare monthly and quarterly accruals and adjusting journal entries
- Prepare financial reports and respond to inquiries
- Assist in quarterly operating and capital variance reporting
- Create and prepare month end program reports and reconciliations as required
- Prepare cash deposits
- Prepare monthly invoices; ensure the accuracy of financial reporting and track work to completion
- Ensure accurate records are maintained in accordance with department objectives and procedures
- Analyze billing trends as well as investigation into general ledger billing account anomalies
Qualifications and Skills:
- A degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or Business plus a minimum of 2 years of accounting experience
- Familiarity with Oracle software is considered an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Effective time management and organizational skills are needed to deal with changing priorities and competing deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills: maintains a professional/positive level of communication, written and verbal, with internal/external customers
- Possess strong problem-solving skills and analytical skills
