Job Description

The Exhibit and Fleet Specialist provides daily support to the RCMP members in processing (receiving, managing, classifying, storing) of seized evidence. Document each items movement by tracking the item within the RCMP computerized Police Reporting Occurrence System (PROS). Provide secure movement of various types of items (monies, drugs, and firearms, hazardous materials). Track and safeguard the evidence until the investigations are concluded. Manage a large motor vehicle fleet. Coordinating regular or unscheduled maintenance and correlate monthly fuel accounts

Responsibilities

  • Document each item’s movement by labelling, moving; securing and update movement with the RCMP computerized Police Reporting Occurrence System (PROS)
  • Complete all federal regulated documentation in relation to the movement of seized firearms
  • Liaise between the Detachment Commander, 1/C Operations, Watch Commanders, and members to minimize both Civil and  Criminal liability
  • Properly mark and mail sensitive exhibit to various laboratories, by properly managing the movement by various forms of mail services
  • Testify in Judicial Hearings concerning the continuity of seized property and documentation with respect to property’s movement
  • Conduct a physical audit of every item seized movement and stored
  • Act as Public Agents Firearms Registrar, responsible for the recording/tracking of all firearms entering or exiting RCMP possession by way of computerized system
  • Responsible for the arrangement of destruction of exhibits as directed by court order, or disposal of all found property in timely manner
  • Manage a large motor vehicle fleet
  • Coordinating regular or unscheduled maintenance
  • Correlate monthly fuel accounts
  • Plan for seasonal changes with various service providers ensuring smooth transition
  • Manage major repairs (damages) by soliciting various bids, researching cost factors and awarding service based on various decisions
  • Certify invoices by cross referencing work orders

Skills and Abilities

  • This position requires an understanding of legal liabilities and officer safety concerns
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of Federal Legislation regarding the seizing, storage, movement of firearms
  • Must possess knowledge and a variety of policing experience
  • Strong Oral and written communication skills
  • Must have access and working knowledge of RCMP Operational Procedures, RCMP mandates, RCMP Policy and Procedures
  • Ability to communicate with RCMP members in a diplomatic and tactful manner
  • Strong organizational skills and abilities within Police Reporting Occurrence System (PROS) access

Qualifications

  • High School diploma and minimum 4 years of related policing environment experience
  • Certification and experience working with Police and Justice computer software systems, (PROS, CPIC, JOIN, Alberta Justice on-line)
  • Working knowledge and experience of the Police and Court procedures
  • Handling of all types of exhibits requires high level of confidentiality
  • Experience in accounts payables and receivables

Conditions of Employment

  • Ability to obtain a RCMP Security Clearance, level of Top Secret
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
