Helping to keep our community at its best

Most Strathcona County residents take great pride in the appearance of their property, and value well-kept neighbourhoods as part of the overall quality of life.

Over the last few years, the County has received an increasing number of comments and concerns about unsightly properties. In July 2002, Council approved the Nuisance and Unsightly Premises bylaw to help maintain the community standards that residents expect.

What the bylaw covers

The bylaw may apply to properties with an excessive amount of:

  • garbage and litter
  • unused vehicles or vehicle parts
  • long, uncut grass
  • unkept trees and shrubs
  • lack of maintenance and repair

How will the bylaw be enforced?
The bylaw will be enforced when a complaint is made to the County's Enforcement Services.

Where to get rid of materials
To assist with property cleanup, the County has put together a list of recycling stations and other disposal options for various materials. Call 780-449-0170 for a printed copy.

Further information
Since this is a new bylaw, we encourage residents to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Presentations to community groups
