  • 1. Connect Parent May 2nd, 2019

    Connect Parent is a nine week program that provides parents/caregivers with a new perspective on relationships and adolescent development. Parents meet in small groups with two trained leaders for 90 minutes each week. This group brings together parents of pre-teens and teens to connect, support and build positive relationships with their children. A light supper is provided. 

    • DATE: Thursdays, Starting May 2nd, 2019 to June 27th, 2019
    • TIME: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    • LOCATION: Millennium Place (2000 Premier Way) Activity Room 1
    • FOR: Parents, Caregivers of pre-teens to teenagers (Grades 4 to 9)
    • COST: Free

  • 2. Skill Building for Parents • Parent Group - Open Weekly to New Participants •

    Learn and practice strategies with other parents around various parenting challenges. Build on your strengths and learn new skills to support you, your children and your family and continue to enhance your connections.

    Topics offered: Anxiety & stress, Boundaries and setting limits, Connecting with your child, Emotional regulation, Healthy Relationships, Navigating change

    • DATE: Tuesday evenings
    • TIME: 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (please arrive 10 minutes prior to starting)
    • LOCATION: Family and Community Services
    • FOR: Parents and caregivers of school aged children
    • COST: Free

     Drop in and new participants are always welcome.

  • 3. Moving Through Family Restructuring - Parent Information Session March 20th, 2019

    Create the tomorrow you want and build resiliency by learning new skills, using tools and strategies, and making supportive connections. This session will provide information on various parenting challenges and give opportunities to practice new skills within a group setting.

  • 4. Test Anxiety: Strategies for Success April 17th, 2019

    Does your teen prepare for a test only to freeze or blank out during the test? Does your teen’s anxiety hold them back from their full potential? Test and performance anxiety is very common among students. This session will help teens learn how to succeed in spite of their anxiety and help caregivers support their teens to reduce test anxiety. We will explore what happens when a student experiences test anxiety and provide practical strategies and resources for you and your teen to use to manage anxiety symptoms.

    This session is made possible through Alberta Health Services and Elk Island Public Schools.

  • 5. Breaking the Cycle of Anxiety - A Step by Step Approach May 1st, 2019

    Anxiety is one of the most common mental health complaints in children and teens today. This session will distinguish between normal anxiety and anxiety that is no longer helpful or productive. It will help caregivers to identify signs that a child or adolescent is experiencing problems with anxiety. Caregivers will gain step by step strategies to assist their child/teen to manage their anxiety and improve their mental health. Resources for parents will be provided as well as tools designed to reduce anxiety.
