Family Day Homes
Strathcona County Family Day Homes
Welcome to the Strathcona County Family Day Home webpage! We have been in operation since 1977, providing quality childcare services in home-based settings to children up to twelve years of age. As a licensed day home agency through the Government of Alberta we provide child care environments where children will thrive with educators who understand how to promote healthy growth and development.
The Strathcona County Family Day Home agency supports our day home educators through routine visits to day homes, ongoing training opportunities, and by providing resources and support. All of our family day homes are screened, approved and monitored in accordance with Government of Alberta Family Day Home Standards.
We value children for their wonder, curiosity, perspectives and the ability to lead their own learning. We believe children learn through relationships with their families, educators, and peers and are best supported by strong relationships between all the caring adults in their lives. Our mission is to create a play-based learning environment that is nurturing, safe, and educational.
Benefits of choosing a licensed family day home
All day home educators and any other adults living in the day home are required to submit criminal record checks including a vulnerable sector search and child care intervention checks prior to opening their day home and then again, every three years.
Ongoing safety checks are completed in accordance with provincial day home standards, and all educators must maintain current first aid certification.
Educators have the opportunity to engage in regular professional development opportunities to remain current with early learning and child care research and best practice. The agency offers training sessions throughout the year based on suggestions from educators and in accordance with our program policies.
Day homes are regularly monitored by agency staff to ensure compliance with provincial standards and program policies.
Eligible families can access child care subsidy through the province to cover part of their child care fees.
Family day homes offer a formal child care option in a small group, home-based setting, allowing siblings to be cared for together. Family day home educators can offer child care for up to 6 children, not including their own. A maximum of three children may be 36 months or younger. A maximum of two children may be 24 months or younger.
Day homes offer a variety of flexible schedules for both full time and part time care based on availability of space.
Day homes offer a variety of nutritious snacks and meals based on the Canada food guide.
