Visual Arts Teacher Resources and Development
Looking for an inspiring professional development opportunity for your staff? Strathcona County Art Gallery@501 is pleased to offer Professional Development programs for teachers from grades K-12. Whether you’d like to better understand the Fine Arts Curriculum, or try a team-building project, we will customize an experience for you.
Gallery@501 programs are curriculum aligned and focus on connecting teachers with their peers through collaboration and info-sharing, while developing personal skills and strengths in art to inspire the same in their students. Topics include:
- Fine Arts in the Classroom (ideas for relating art to other subject areas)
- Understanding Fine Arts Vocabulary
- Elements and Principles of Design
- Beyond the Stickman (how to introduce figure drawing to your class)
- Oh Canada (getting to know Canadian artists)
Visit the Gallery, or let us come to you! Programs can take place at the gallery or at the host school, and program times are flexible. Teachers will gain knowledge of the topic, receive lesson plans to use in the classroom, and create their own project. Time is also spent sharing and reflecting in a constructive way, to inspire confidence taking these ideas back to the classroom.
Our Gallery Educators are qualified professional artists and educators who can help answer your art-related questions. Professional Development Programs can be booked by schools on their choice of date. Cost depends upon the program design.
