Community-builders in COVID-19: Graham Heights and Scot Haven Walking Group

Recently whad a chance to talk to Jamie Imeson, a summer 2019 block party host and active community member about how she and a group of women have been meeting every Wednesday evening to walk. “On these walks we get to talk about where our kids go to school and other common interests.”

Jamie tells us about the verylaid-back outings [w]don’t walk very fast, it’s more of a gab session with fresh air. The inspiration to get together with neighbours began with a block party she hosted last summer saying “some of the people said they discovered that they had lived next to some of their neighbours for many years and never had the opportunity to meet each other … neighbours were able to meet and connect with one another while others were able to reconnect.”

They are now into their sixth week, if you live in the area and are looking to join in, Jamie notes that “we start at the south entrance of Scot Haven and travel counterclockwise on the [recreational] path.” For more information, Jamie mentioned that a neighbour has a Facebook page for the Range Road 232 Subdivision community.

This is just another example of how community members activate in the spirit of trying to bring others together and foster community, even when it’s not the easiest time to do so.
