Strathcona County's perspective

Strathcona County Living (February 15, 2008)

Keeping our community informed is a key part of Strathcona County's Strategic Plan

What does our community think?
As plans for the Capital Region have developed, Strathcona County has listened to the community. To make sure we understood and represented local views, two random surveys have been conducted with residents over the last few months.

New: Preliminary survey results: February 2008
These questions were based on the information made available by the Province in December about the new Regional Board. Although the results are preliminary, it appears that in general, residents support the County's approach and share the concerns about how the board may affect our municipality.

Highlights

  • Support for Strathcona County retaining its independence: 84%
Opposition to a new Regional Board with binding decision-making power: 65%
  • Opposition to Edmonton having a veto over regional decisions: 84%
  • Support for every municipality having a veto for projects within its borders: 78%
  • Support for local tax dollars being used to help pay for regional projects that benefit County residents: 79%
