Capital Region Board

Alberta's Capital Region Board (CRB) was officially established on April 15, 2008 and consists of mayors and reeves from the 25 municipalities in the Alberta Capital Region. The board was created to jointly develop a long-range regional growth management plan (Capital Region Growth Plan) which was submitted to the Province on March 31, 2009. On June 11, 2009 a preliminary response was provided by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and resulted in two addendums submitted on October 31, 2009 and December 31, 2009.

A clear mandate
To manage growth, I believe leadership by the Province and joint action by our municipalities is key to the efficient, cost-effective delivery of services. So today, I am releasing a road map towards that goal, and I'm confident it will lead to a long-term plan to support anticipated development in the Capital Region over the next 20 to 50 years.

March 11, 2010 - Update

Premier Ed Stelmach congratulated the Capital Region Board for its outstanding work in developing a historic long-term growth plan that the Government of Alberta has now formally accepted.

"These municipalities saw that a strategic plan would help guide the region through growth and now Albertans can look forward to the results," said Premeir Stelmach. "I expect the Capital Region will become known in Canada for smart development, planned growth, and a greener, more co-ordinated approach to land use."
