The Strathcona County crest
This is the official crest of Strathcona County. The crest is used on publications and materials produced on behalf of County Council. It also appears on the County flag.
The design was chosen through a contest held during Canada's Centennial Year, 1967. The designer of the crest was Mrs. Mary Tiedemann. The crest uses a wagon wheel with six symbols, each illustrating one aspect of Strathcona County.
They are: a sheaf of grain and a cow, representing our agricultural heritage; oil tanks and towers, indicative of the oil industry; the wild rose of Alberta and an old fort, symbolic of our provincial and historical past; and a typical suburban house to represent the residential element of the County, Sherwood Park.
At the time the crest was introduced, it also included the number 20 in the hub of the wheel. This was part of the County's official name at the time--County of Strathcona No. 20.
