| 1893 | Clover Bar area on the eastern outskirts of Edmonton (now Highway 16) was declared by the territorial legislature as Statute Labour and Fire District #2. |
| 1913 | Clover Bar became known simply as Local Improvement District #517 |
| 1943 | Municipal District of Clover Bar #517 merged with the Municipal District of Strathcona #518. |
| 1945 | This larger area became known as the Municipal District of Strathcona #83. |
| 1962 | The Municipal District joined with local school divisions and was declared County of Strathcona #20. |
| 1995 | In January, the County of Strathcona #20 status reverted to a Municipal District when the County Act was repealed. |
| 1995 | In June, the County of Strathcona #20 officially changed its name to Strathcona County. |
| 1996 | On January 1, Strathcona County's status legally changed from a Municipal District to a Specialized Municipality. |
