Community Heritage Legacy Framework - adopted by Council on December 8, 2009

Building on a foundation of work done and being done at the County, the Strathcona County Museum & Archives, and elsewhere, the work of Community Heritage Legacy is to support and initiate efforts relating to history and heritage.

The idea is to give greater profile to history and heritage in our community -- to encourage, showcase and connect individual efforts.

If you would like to participate or be informed as the program develops, please register your interest. Call 780-416-6762 or email .

One place we are showcasing Strathcona County's history is right here on this website.

Overview of local history

Glaciers carved out the plains, hills, lakes and rivers, and these features attracted human populations to the area now known as Strathcona County.

From the first known First Nations people to the development of Sherwood Park, Strathcona County's history reflects how people lived their lives in this Western Canadian prairie landscape.

Writing in 1931 on the history of the Clover Bar area, J.P. Berry captured more than a glimpse of pioneer life in the first five decades of settlement. The author of Clover Bar in the Making, Berry offers clear observations of the day.

Explore these sections and check back often for more information as we continue to showcase Strathcona County's past -- the people who lived here and the community they shared.

Research Strathcona County's history for yourself by visiting any of the pages in the left navigation.

Call for stories, photos, records

The search for history is ongoing. This initiative is looking to uncover information, stories and memories about the past in order to paint a picture of what life was once like in this community--for today and future generations.
