WHEREAS February 13, 2017 marks the 70^th anniversary of the Leduc No. 1 oil discovery; and

WHEREAS the discovery of oil at Leduc, Alberta in 1947 proved to be the catalyst for unlocking the province’s conventional oil resources and driving Canada towards increased energy independence; and

WHEREAS the oil and gas industry has been a leading industry in shaping contemporary Alberta; and

WHEREAS Strathcona County has committed in our strategic plan to increase and diversify the petrochemical business found within our borders.

NOW THEREFORE I, Mayor Roxanne Carr, do hereby proclaim February 13, 2107 as ‘Oil and Gas Awareness Day’ in Strathcona County.
