WHEREAS Hair Massacure day began in 2003 by Gord and Tammy MacDonald in honour of their daughter Kali, a 4 year old cancer patient; and

WHEREAS the Hair Massacure now has approximately 1850 participants and raises $1.2 million annually nationwide; and

WHEREAS participants raise funds, dye their hair ‘Kali pink’ and shave it off across Canada in a mass head shave event; and

WHEREAS Strathcona County residents and groups are a part of the 28 schools that participate from across Canada; and

WHEREAS public support and volunteers are the cornerstone to creating this vibrant and successful fundraiser for further funding of Paediatric Cancer Research;

NOW THEREFORE I, Mayor Roxanne Carr, do hereby proclaim February 24, 2017 as ‘Hair Massacure Day’ in Strathcona County.
