WHEREAS business retention and expansion is a fundamental strategy for economic sustainability and growth, and is vital to the prosperity of Strathcona County; and

WHEREAS Strathcona County, as a member of the Greater Edmonton Economic Development Team, successfully collaborated with Business Retention and Expansion International to attract the Business Retention and Expansion Conference to the Edmonton region in 2017; and

WHEREAS Strathcona County Council is committed to support our approximate 11,000 local businesses, and to recognize their contributions to local job creation; and

WHEREAS Strathcona County Council encourages all residents to shop local wherever and whenever possible to help sustain our local economy;

NOW THEREFORE I,Mayor Roxanne Carr, do hereby proclaim June 19-23, 2017 as “Business Retention and Expansion Week” in Strathcona County.
