Ice and Snow Playground

Prairie Walk (The green space directly across the road from Festival Place's front doors) and Broadmoor Lake Park toboggan hill

An unforgettable experience for the entire family on a playground made of ice and snow.

  • Ice luge (at Broadmoor Lake Park toboggan hill. Sledges will be provided on New Year's Eve - please bring your own sledge starting New Year's Day.)
  • Ice slides
  • Snow building activities
  • Fire dancer performance at 5 p.m. & 6 p.m. outside the Community Centre, 7:30 p.m. at Broadmoor Lake Park Plaza (directly outside the south facing doors of the Sherwood Park Sports Centre)

  • Cooking s'mores on a campfire
  • Jam can curling
  • Broom ball
  • Cabane a sucre
  • Horse-drawn sleigh rides (Tickets are $1 per person. Children under 2 do not need a ticket; however, the child must sit on an adult's lap. Do not be disappointed, purchase your ticket in advance at the Recreation Administration Office, 2025 Oak Street. Any remaining tickets will be available at the Festival Place information desk - Festival Place lobby.)

Please note that outdoor activities are weather dependent.

Sherwood Park Arena

  • Community shinny hockey 4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. (Remember your equipment! Skate check is available from 4 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Sherwood Park Sports Centre lobby information desk so you do not have to carry your equipment while enjoying the off-ice activities.)
  • Sherwood Park Figure Skating Club performance 7 p.m. Featuring 2 of the Sherwood Park Figure Skating Club's National Competitors 2015, Kira Gallant and Aislinn Ganci.
  • Sherwood Park Kings concession

Sherwood Park Sports Centre

  • Family fun skating from 4 p.m. - 7:50 p.m. (Remember your skates and helmet! **Not to worry if you forget your skates, we have a few pairs for individuals to borrow. Skate check is available from 4 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Sherwood Park Sports Centre lobby information desk so you do not have to carry your skates while enjoying the activities.)

Strathcona County Transit shuttle service

  • First 100 children receive a New Year's mystery bag!
  • Bethel Transit Terminal (650 Bethel Drive) to Broadmoor Lake Park starts at 3:30 p.m. and runs every 15 minutes.
  • Broadmoor Lake to Bethel Transit Terminal (650 Bethel Drive) starts at 3:45 p.m. and departs in front of Festival Place running every half hour. Last shuttle is at 8:45 p.m.
  • The bus stop is directly outside of the Festival Place front doors.
  • Free local service: starting 12 noon, December 31 to 2 a.m., January 1, 2015
  • Free commuter service: starting 6 p.m., December 31 to 2 a.m, January 1, 2015

Parking & Road Closures

Road closures: Festival Avenue and Festival Lane, closed on December 31 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Parking: Above and below ground parking at the Community Centre will be available for free. Parking is also available at Festival Place and at the Sherwood Park Arena and Sports Centre.

Please note that parking on Oak Street, from the Broadmoor Public Golf Course south to Sherwood Drive, will be for residents only from 3 p.m. - 9 p.m. Parking passes will be required for street parking and will be bylaw enforced.

What should I bring to the Festival?

  • Warm clothes
  • A helmet, stick and skates for shinny hockey
  • Skates and a helmet for on ice activities

Lost Child and Medical Services

Lost Child

  • Located in Community Centre lobby and Festival Place
  • The Lost Child Stations are operated by Citizens on Patrol members who will be on site from 4:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • To ensure your family has a safe and fun experience, remember to visit the Lost Child Stations to receive a free wristband for your child, which you can write your name and cell phone number on. Should you be separated from your child, your child will be escorted directly to the nearest lost child station and you will be contacted.

Medical Services

  • The volunteer First Aid Team is available from 4:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Located in Community Centre lobby and Festival Place lobby
  • Each information desk is equipped with band aids
