Wipe Out Graffiti

We encourage our residents to report graffiti vandalism through County Connect to the Recreation, Parks and Culture department. If the graffiti is on a private property painted residential fence, we provide support to the home owner by a free coupon for a graffiti removal kit (includes, paint, roller, tray, brush and gloves). We encourage prompt removal as the research indicates that it deters graffiti vandals. This is the best way for residents to protect their property and preserve the image of their neighbourhood.

With your County Connect graffiti report, we share it with the appropriate department for prompt removal, contact the home owner if on a residential fence, report to the appropriate utility company for removal and/or share information with the RCMP. Once you have sent in the graffiti through county connect, please also report graffiti to the RCMP non-emergency complaint line at 780-467-7741.

Report graffiti on:

  • The majority of fences in Strathcona County are resident owned. Even if the fence is on a walkway, fence maintenance on all sides is the responsibility of the homeowner, as the developer built the fence on private property. The County is not permitted to paint over private property.

Strathcona County offers support to those residents affected by graffiti with a free graffiti removal kit (including paint supplies) from a local paint store. If your fence has been hit by graffiti, you can apply for a free kit.

    1. Take a picture and include the photo of the Graffiti with your application form.
    2. Complete the Graffiti Removal Kit application.
    3. Report the graffiti to the RCMP non emergency line 780-467-7741.
    4. Submit your Graffiti Removal Kit Application and photo via County Connect.

If you are reporting a fence that is not your property or a in a walkway we will notify the affected residents and provide support by offering a free removal kit.

  • Graffiti on utility boxes is the responsibility of the utility company for removal as the cabinets are considered private property. The County is not permitted to paint over private property. Please note the sticker on the side of the cabinet and report directly to the company on their "Contact Us" page. Please indicate in your County Connect request if you have already notified the utility company. Alternatively, we will notify the company to request removal. Some utility companies send out a contractor to paint right away, and some collect a list of locations and go out once or twice per year. Painting is dependent upon the weather (i.e. no painting is done in the winter). We also have graffiti wipes available to use on hard surfaces, such as mailboxes, that we are able to hand out to our residents.

Anti-graffiti decorative wraps on utility cabinets

In 2012 Strathcona County and Fortis Alberta jointly funded a pilot project to cover four utility cabinets with an anti-graffiti photo wrap. The application acts as a preventative measure and the response by residents has been very positive. Fortis Alberta has since decided to cover more utility cabinets in Strathcona County as well as other communities in Alberta due to the positive reaction to this pilot project. We are proud to be the first community in Alberta to have these anti-graffiti wraps installed.

Due to the positive response from our residents, some have asked if they may have a wrap in their neighbourhood or in front of their homes. Fortis Alberta owns this infrastructure and they plan the installations in order to provide their technicians access, deter graffiti on highly visible areas, and to ensure that they fulfill their safety requirements.
