June 12, 2017

Celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday at Broadmoor Lake Park!

Strathcona County’s favourite family festival will be better than ever before with new activities for Canada 150 and an even bigger fireworks show at Broadmoor Lake Park.

The festival kicks off Saturday, July 1 at 9 a.m. with the Axiom Mortgage Solutions Pancake Breakfast and stage show, featuring local talent at the Community Centre (401 Festival Lane, Sherwood Park). At 10 a.m., the Chamber of Commerce Parade will wind its way around the heart of our community.

This year’s festival will see the return of many favourite activities like inflatables, a petting zoo, crafts, games and more. New activities added this year, in honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary of confederation, include:

  • Imperial Canada 150 Zone featuring button making, t-shirt decorating, inflatables, axe throwing and bucksaw, a photo booth, and the Canadiana Community Piano Project.
  • Children’s performances by Sharon and Bram at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on the HQ Salon Spa Stage
  • Headliners Kenny Shields and Streetheart at 9:30 p.m. on the HQ Salon Spa Stage
  • iPlay Game Theatre
  • Enhanced Sobeys Lakeland and Nottingham Fireworks show
  • Commemorative military celebration

While the majority of activities are free, some do require tickets or an unlimited activity wristband, on sale now for $5 at the Sherwood Park Mall (cash only) and at Strathcona County recreation facilities in Sherwood Park. On July 1, tickets can also be purchased on-site for $1 per activity.

Approximately 100 volunteers are still needed for the event! Volunteer shifts are flexible and those who sign up for six hours or more receive exclusive access to the Special Guest Reception to watch Kenny Shields and Streetheart and view the fireworks.

Guests are invited to take advantage of the FREE Transit express shuttle that runs every 15 minutes from the Bethel Transit Terminal (650 Bethel Drive, Sherwood Park) to the front of Festival Place in Broadmoor Lake Park.

Festival attendees are invited to share their Strathcona County Canada Day experiences by using the hashtag #mycanadafest on Twitter and Instagram for a chance to win prizes (posts must be set to public to enter).

Be sure to download the free Canada Day App for a complete listing of all the events, maps and schedules.
