Water rebate FAQs
I purchased a toilet before January 1, 2012. Am I still eligible for a rebate?
No. Rebates are only offered during the eligible program dates. Funding is available from January 1 until December 31 of the current year or until funding is completely allocated. Rebates are given on a first-come, first-served basis.
But I wanted to submit my receipts in 2011 and couldn't, why?
Rebates are given on a first-come, first-served basis. For the first time since the program began in 2004, funding for the rebates was fully allocated in 2011.
How is the 2011 program different than the old program?
Our toilet rebate program has gone through many changes:
- In June 2010, we fully allotted all rebate funds for the first time since 2004.
- We have updated our program to WaterSense approved toilets that use independent, third-party tests to ensure higher performance and lower water use. WaterSense toilets are 20 per cent more efficient than standard low-flush models.
- The WaterSense logo will make shopping for these toilet models much simpler than our old program.
How many rebates can I receive?
Each household can apply for one washer and one toilet rebate. This allows for the program to reach as many households as possible.
I am building a new home. Can I apply for a toilet rebate?
Rebates are for toilet replacements only. The County's safety codes bylaw requires all new bathrooms are required to have water efficient fixtures.
Will toilets require photo proof of installation?
Photos are not required. A copy of the original purchase receipt and verification that the model is a WaterSense approved toilet will be required.
Why offer front-load washer rebates?
Front load washers save! They use half the water and energy of top-load washers. Homeowners can save $150 in utility costs per year and save 33,000 litres of water per year.
Where can I find a list of eligible toilets and washers?
Researching a quality product for your home is a good investment. New efficient appliance models become available on the market all the time. Not all toilet or washer models will be accepted for these rebates. Look for the WaterSense and Energy Star logos or visit C3 for the latest eligibility lists.
