Compost sale
Get your official Green Routine compost!
On Saturday May 12, 2012 at 9 a.m. until noon or sold out there will be two locations to purchase compost.
The Home on the Range Autism Ranch is selling compost at the Bethel Drive Recycle Station to help raise money to build rural, sustainable housing for adults living with autism.
The 4-H Odyssey is selling compost at the Country Boyz Tempo Gas on hwy 16 to raise money for a trip to the 4-H centre in Tanzania, Africa.
Adding compost will improve the water-holding capacity of sandy soils and open up air spaces in compacted clay soils. Nutrients and essential micro-organisms in compost help get the growing process off to a good start.
This Category A compost sells on a first-come, first-served basis for:
- $8 for one bag
- $15 for two bags
- $20 for three bags
- Each additional bag over three bags is $5/bag (4 bags for $25, 5 for $30, etc.)
Each bag holds approximately 40 liters. Limit of 10 bags per person.
Please contact the Utilities department if you require quantities larger than 10 bags.
The compost is made up from our own Green Routine organics! Every year the County gets a certain percentage of the organics we send for processing back in valuable compost. The compost is used in a variety of County landscaping and reclamation projects. To help out our local community groups, Utilities partners with local non-profit groups to sell the compost as a fundraising effort. Approximately 90 per cent of the proceeds from the sale will go to a local non-profit community group. Groups are invited to apply for this fundraiser in the fall. Watch the website for upcoming application dates.
