Make an eco-friendly office

You have made your home into a "green oasis," but now it is time to bring those eco-habits to the office.

Take a look around

What comes in and goes out of your office every day? What are you throwing away? Do you have an organized recycling program? What kinds of products are the cleaning staff using? What needs to be done?

Reduce your trash

One of the best ways to reduce trash is to cut down on photocopies. North Americans make 33 per cent more copies than necessary. Put up clear instructions on how to use the two-sided function on your copier and encourage everyone to use it.

Try not to replace plastic garbage bags that aren't full. If possible, avoid plastic window envelopes, plastic tape and plastic-coated paperclips, which aren't recyclable. And just think how much better coffee tastes in mugs rather than throwaway cups! If we all did this, we'd use about 3.5 billion fewer cups each year - enough to fill a 30-storey skyscraper!
