Weeds

Weeds and their control in Strathcona County

Strathcona County is pleased to work with residents to resolve weed control issues.

Municipalities are given responsibility under the Provincial Weed Control Act to control weeds in order to protect the environment and landowners.

What are noxious weeds and prohibited noxious weeds?

Weeds are categorized as noxious and prohibited noxious when they are aggressive, difficult to manage and invasive in nature.  These weeds:

  • infest pastures and crops
  • alter natural habitats
  • compete with our native plants
  • affect animal, insect and bird species
  • are costly to control

Are dandelions noxious?

No, dandelions are not a noxious species of weeds.
