Celebrating history … There is a humble heartbeat that reminds us of the achievements of those who lived here before us. The First Nations people, fur traders, Métis, pioneers and farmers – their legacy is what grounds us, along with our children, in reality rather than artificiality. This year marks the 120th anniversary of the origin of Strathcona County as a municipality, when the North-West Territorial Legislature in 1893 declared Township 53, Range 22, West of the 4th Meridian (Clover Bar) as “Statute Labor and Fire District Number Two.” We are proud of our name, as it honours our namesake, Lord Strathcona.

Celebrating people… As Strathconians, we take great pride in celebrating where we have come from. Our current value system was born largely of agricultural roots, where people put in an honest day’s work with a compassionate hand. Our passionate, creative and “can do” spirit has had a strong influence on the direction and success of our community. We celebrate the people who call Strathcona County home.

Celebrating military … On August 24, 2013 we will celebrate our military heritage through a grand-scale Freedom of the City Ceremony and Parade to honour Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) for its valued service to the community. Strathcona County takes great pride in being in close proximity to the Command Headquarters. We are proud to honour all residents who have chosen to serve to defend our freedom.

Stay tuned for upcoming details on the celebrations - we have some big things planned!
