Millennium Place Revitalization

Invested Community Partner Feedback

The focus of the Millennium Place revitalization project is primarily about increasing the capacity for spontaneous use in the areas of wellness and ice. Recent feedback from the community has been gathered to best capture the needs of our residents.

The process

  • Feedback from more than 650 people was collected between May and July 2009 through an online survey as well as several focus groups, personal inerviews and on-site surveys
  • This represented a cross-section of interested groups including youth, adults, older adults and instructors in the areas of wellness, skating, Edu-tainment Centre and preschool programming.

Feedback outcomes

  • Millennium Place provides the right services, there just needs to be increased capacity to deal with overcrowding issues. This applies especially to the wellness centre, fitness classes, leisure ice, Edu-tainment Centre, childcare services, preschool area, gymnasium, and program rooms.
  • There needs to be more times and space for recreational skating.
  • There's a gap in the service levels at Millennium Place offered to the youth population between 8 and 13 years. These individuals are too old for the Edu-tainment Centre, but too young for the gymnasium.
  • More age-segregation needs to be considered for child/youth services.
  • Need to create more youth-specific spaces and amenities.
  • There needs to be more open spaces in the wellness centre to do weight and general dry surface training.
  • The wellness centre needs to be decongested with the addition of open space.
  • Fitness classes require additional capacity as well as improvements to the quality of the spaces.
  • The group cycle classes need to be in a room. The experience of having them in open space is not optimal.
  • All spaces need to be as multi-functional as possible to allow for multiple uses by a wide variety of age groups when possible.
  • There's a strong demand for Millennium Place, particularly in the fitness/wellness spaces, to continually be on the leading edge of new trends in the industry. This includes technology and equipment.
