Answering your quesstions

Recreational vehicles (RVs) parked on private property must not overhang the property line. The RV or trailer must not create an obstruction, hinder pedestrian or vehicle traffic, or cause any other safety concerns.

Remember - your property does not extend all the way to the sidewalk or curb. The road right-of-way includes the road, sidewalk and boulevard, and part of what may appear as your property.

Recreation vehicles parked on roadways must always be attached to tow vehicles.

This distance varies from property to property. Recreational vehicles (RVs) can be parked on a public roadway for up to 36 consecutive hours?twice in any given seven days. All trailers and fifth wheels parked on a road right-of-way must be attached to tow vehicles at all times.

Recreational vehicles (RVs) include:

  • motorized RVs all motorhomes (self-propelled motor vehicle chassis)
  • trailers and towable RVs travel trailers; tent trailers; truck (slide-in) campers; fifth wheel trailers; and trailers carrying boats, all terrain vehicles or snowmobiles.

In Strathcona County:

  • unattached trailers or fifth wheels may not be parked on any road right-of-way for any length of time.
  • the maximum permitted length of any parked vehicle or vehicle with attached trailer is 10 metres.
  • the maximum permitted width of any parked vehicle, including mirrors, is 2.6 metres.
