What is a Public Hearing?

Public Hearings provide an opportunity for members of the public to speak to Council on proposed planning and development matters.

How do I obtain information on scheduled items?

When items are scheduled for public hearing, copies of proposed bylaws and related documents are available by Friday (12 noon) before the meeting date for public review at:

Planning and Development Services
Main floor, County Hall, 2001 Sherwood Drive
Sherwood Park, Alberta

Where are Public Hearings held?

Council Meetings are held in Council Chambers, in County Hall, 2001 Sherwood Drive, Sherwood Park, Alberta. Members of the public are welcome to attend and observe.

How do I register to speak?

To speak to Council at a Public Hearing, you may call 780-464-8105 to register up until the (business) day before the date of the hearing, or you may identify your wish to speak at the meeting. People registered to speak will be heard first. To ensure everyone an equal opportunity to speak, presentation time is limited to five minutes. Written comments will also be accepted and become part of the public record.

How do I obtain copies of bylaws, agendas and reports?

Copies of bylaws, council agendas and reports are available by Friday (12 noon) before the meeting date from the following locations:

Strathcona County Library
Strathcona County Hall from the applicable department
Legislative & Legal Services
At the Council meeting from the Legislative Meeting Assistant

The names of persons providing comments will become part of the public record. Other personal information is protected by the privacy provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
