South Cooking Lake ASP Review
The South Cooking Lake Area Structure Plan (ASP) Review project has been re-started!
The ASP review is important to our community and has been prioritized for completion this year. The following provides an update of our past, present, and future progress on the review as well as some background information.
The objective of the ASP is to establish policy for sustainable development within South Cooking Lake over the next 20 years and beyond. This ASP must also balance the natural environment with growth and social responsibilities.

Background information
What is the South Cooking Lake ASP Review?
Strathcona County is taking another look at the South Cooking Lake Area Structure Plan (ASP) that was adopted more than 10 years ago. We are currently collecting information and background on the community in order to be able to incorporate this research into a new or amended Area Structure Plan that reflects the needs of the community today and in the future.
What is the purpose of an area structure plan?
An Area Structure Plan (ASP) provides a framework for future development by describing future land uses, sequence of development, future population density and location of major transportation routes and public utilities.
Why does the current area structure plan need to be reviewed?
The current South Cooking Lake ASP was adopted on July 4, 1995. Since that time many changes have occurred in the Hamlet and in Strathcona County as a whole. The purpose of the review is to ensure that the ASP is consistent with the policies of the Municipal Development Plan and correctly represents the vision of the community.
