How to withdraw your complaint
Following filing your complaint with the Assessment Review Board, you may withdraw for whatever reason in the period leading up to your hearing date. We request that we receive the withdrawal in writing, and the Notice of Withdrawal form may be used when submitting a withdrawal and submitted to the Board Clerk of the Assessment Review Board. Hearing dates and times
The Board schedules hearings as required and in accordance with the Municipal Government Act. Property owners who have properly filed a complaint will be advised as to the date and time of their hearing. Hearings are open to the public.
Hearing location
Assessment Review Board hearings are held in Meeting Rooms located on the Main floor, Community Centre, 401 Festival Lane, Sherwood Park.
Hearing procedures
- The board secretary will read aloud the complaint you have filed with the Board. You are entitled to see all documents and hear all other evidence the Board considers in reaching its decision.
- The chairperson will ask you to explain your reasons for objecting to your assessment. Board members may question you after your presentation.
- The chairperson will ask an assessor to explain the current assessment. The assessor may also ask you questions, and may dispute your evidence or arguments at this time. The Board may ask the assessor questions.
- You may ask the assessor questions, and you may dispute the assessor's evidence and arguments at this time.
- The Board members will meet in private to discuss the case among themselves, then reach a decision.
- If you have been given notice of the hearing and do not attend, the Board may make a decision on your complaint in your absence.
