Aquatic Instructor II
| Recreation, Parks and Culture The Aquatic Instructor II will have these responsibilities: - instruct aquatic programs with the highest degree of safety and supervision
- plan, implement and conduct classes as designed by the approved agency
- create a safe environment and be a role model for the proper use of equipment and save pool behaviours
- prepare the area for activity, organize equipment and restore after classes to ensure a safe work site
- complete administrative duties that include taking attendance, writing lesson plans, tracking daily progress on evaluation sheets, and filling out evaluation cards and summary sheets
- maintain professionalism and good communication with guests, supervisors and peers
- assist life-guarding staff in emergency situations where required
The ideal candidates will have the following: - Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
- CPR Level C
- Aquatic Emergency Care or Standard First Aid
- the ability to work with minimal supervision in a constantly changing environment
- the ability to work efficiently in a team when delivering lessons or responding to an emergency situation
- ability to use a variety of teaching methods, assessment skills and corrective techniques
- customer service skills to communicate with the public in a positive, professional and constructive manner
- National Lifeguard Service
- Lifesaving Society Instructor (required within the first year of employment)
The hourly wage range for this part-time position is $18.75 to $23.44. Evening and weekend availability is a requirement, and daytime availability is an asset. Aquatic Instructors will be expected to attend mandatory training sessions. Applications for competition #39-2009 will be accepted on an on-going basis.
