Transportation Engineering Technologist II

The Transportation Engineering Technologist II will provide project management and technical expertise for transportation infrastructure projects, ensuring work is completed according to policies, standards and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide project management and supervision of municipal transportation capital projects
  • Prepare and evaluate proposals for consulting engineering services; make recommendations in the preparation of engineering reports, design and tender documents
  • Prepare tender documents for projects to the undertaken. Evaluate tenders for completeness and technical compliance
  • Provide contract administration and implement budget control measures for both engineering consultant and contractor contracts, including review of all expenditures, progress and holdback claim submissions
  • Attend site meetings and perform site inspections prior, during and post construction to ensure projects are completed on schedule, on budget and satisfy intent while maintaining positive relationships with project stakeholders and public
  • Ensure project deficiencies are completed and authorize construction completion and final acceptance certificates
  • Review and provide comments on engineering reports and design of projects
  • Coordinate and review asset condition ratings for all transportation inventories and make recommendations on a 3-5 year schedule for capital transportation projects.
  • Analyze existing plans and activities to make recommendations for improvement to the effectiveness and efficiency of operations by reviewing best practices and procedures
  • Communicate with landowners to address resident concerns by investigating and providing written and verbal response to inquiries
  • Liaise and be a resource to the department within the regional transportation industry while assisting in creation of short and long term strategic planning

Qualifications:

  • A Civil Engineering Technologist designation with a minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Knowledge and experience in these areas:
    • Transportation and traffic engineering (e.g., roadway construction, maintenance and rehabilitation, geometric design, materials testing and traffic theory)
    • Contract law, tendering procedures, contract document preparation and contract administration
    • Construction supervision, estimating and budgeting
    • Pavement: design techniques, rehabilitation, material properties and evaluation
    • Construction survey, measurements, practices and procedures
  • Project management skills and the ability to monitor and provide direction to consultants and contractors
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and experience in dealing with contractors, the public and government representatives
  • Familiarity with engineering and servicing standards
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A class five drivers licence; employees selected for an interview will be required to provide a current drivers abstract

The annual salary range for this permanent position is $64,576 to $80,720, working 35 hours per week.
