Responsibilities:

  • review transportation and utility aspects of proposals submitted by developers and internal departments such as applications for urban and rural subdivisions, land use amendments, engineering drawings, and development site plans, to ensure compliance with standards, statutory requirements and public safety
  • review documents in support of proposals, including traffic impact assessments, geotechnical reports, noise attenuation models, servicing design briefs and engineering design drawings
  • provide department response, recommend improvements or suggest changes to the developers and internal departments in person, over telephone or in writing
  • answer transportation and servicing related inquiries by the senior administration, other departments, developers, external agencies and the general public
  • review and process access applications by undertaking onsite inspections to ensure compliance to guidelines and established criteria
  • supervise development contractors to ensure that infrastructure construction and practices comply with Strathcona County Engineering Servicing Standards

Qualifications:

  • a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a B.Sc in Civil Engineering and presently enrolled as an E.I. T.
  • a minimum of seven years land development experience with knowledge in transportation, traffic, shallow utilities, water, wastewater, stormwater management, environmental engineering and/or construction
  • registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta and possess a Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License
  • courses and seminars in traffic, transportation, hydraulics, hydrology, construction practices, procedures, materials, erosion and sedimentation control, soil mechanics and/or construction safety
  • good written and verbal communication and technical report writing skills
  • knowledge and training in traffic and transportation engineering, transportation planning and traffic impact studies
  • knowledge and training in the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, the Water Act and the Public Lands Act
  • knowledge of land development and planning processes including the Municipal Government Act and Municipal Development Plan

The salary range for this full time position is $66,263 to $82,828, working 35 hours per week.
