This position administers Strathcona County’s Land Use Bylaw and provides planning and development expertise and advice to Council, as well as a variety of stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- supervise Development Officers and support staff including assigning duties, reviewing work for accuracy, providing leadership, coaching and performance reviews
- monitor POSSE to ensure effective record management of the development permit and request for letters respecting compliance process
- administer the Land Use Bylaw
- review and make decisions on permits associated with complex development proposals
- provide technical advice and information, analyze feedback, consult with involved parties negotiate alternatives and ensure compliance with regulations
- coordinate the process for letters respecting compliance, review notifications and circulations and communicate decisions regarding development-related matters to applicants and adjacent landowners as well as internal and external stakeholders
- prepare reports and provide representation at Council meetings with respect to development related matters
- conduct site and field inspections to determine compliance with the Land Use Bylaw
- receive and respond to correspondence and information requests; compile documentation and prepare reports
- assist in the preparation of branch policies, processes and procedures
- provide project management for complex and/or special projects
- promote the principles of sustainable development to internal and external stakeholders and customers
Qualifications:
- a planning degree with a minimum of five years’ experience with emphasis on development processes and membership in the Alberta Development Officers Association
- knowledge of applicable federal, provincial and municipal legislation, policies, processes and programs and the ability to interpret and integrate this knowledge into planning and development projects
- the ability to influence outcomes through excellent public relations, communications, interpersonal, facilitation and mediation expertise
- proven supervisory, leadership and team-building skills
The annual salary range is $76,833 to $96,041, working 35 hours per week.
