Marketing Specialist

We are seeking a Marketing Specialist to join our team for a temporary opportunity. You are a self-starter with outstanding verbal and written communication skills and the ability to lead the department in marketing and promotion of recreation programs, drop-in activities and events for a variety of indoor and outdoor programs. Alongside meeting community needs, the Marketing Specialist is responsible for developing strategic marketing initiatives to generate revenue to meet departmental goals. Responsibilities:
- Manage marketing projects involving graphic design, print, electronic communications, internal/external advertising by determining priorities, coordinating workflow and approvals
- Contribute to the successful planning, development and implementation of department programs, services and events
- Work with Recreation Programmers and Facility Supervisors to identify and interpret needs and opportunities and determine audiences, approaches and communication tools
- Advise and provide recommendations on marketing strategies and options
- Coordinate evaluations of programs and services to facilitate decision-making to maximize opportunities and address issues
- Review current statistics on demographics, participation trends, web analytics, etc and identify ways to improve communications and program planning
- Liaise with the Communications department, external media agencies and other internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure quality control in the delivery and presentation of marketing initiatives and promotional material
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a University degree in Marketing, Public Relations or related field with a minimum of two years experience in a marketing, programming or communications role
- IABC (International Association of Business Communicators) accreditation is an asset
- Solid knowledge of Strathcona County and the Recreation, Parks and Culture core services and programs
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills as well as outstanding interpersonal skills to work with all levels of the organization and internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, complete multiple tasks concurrently and handle a high volume of work while ensuring accuracy, attention to detail and deadlines are met
- Strong proficiency in a computer environment (i.e. graphic design, image editing, web authoring, Internet, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet and database software)
- Excellent knowledge of commercial printing and standards to efficiently produce quality and cost effective promotional material
- Understanding of community event planning and experience with promoting programs and services at trade shows and other public forums
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, manage a variety of interests and balance stress and pressure
The hourly wage range for this one year temporary position is $31.34 to $39.18, working 35 hours per week.
