You have considerable experience in building and implementing a innovative and sound Employee and Labour Relations program and a Compensation program; which contribute to Strathcona County’s commitment to employee engagement and loyalty. You understand the value of building and nurturing professional relationships based on integrity, mutual respect and trust.

As a member of the HR leadership team, your key responsibilities are focused in two areas:

1. Manage Employee and Labour Relations

  • Develop long and short range planning to ensure the County’s Labour Relations philosophy is achieved.
  • Advance positive employee relations for non-union and union employees
  • Provide expert leadership, coaching, strategies and tools for prevention and resolution of employee relations issues
  • Ensure appropriate risk analysis and innovation in problem-solving for a diverse range of human resource issues
  • Coach and mentor managers and employees through ongoing learning sessions
  • Manage the collective bargaining process for two collective agreements.

2. Manage Employee Compensation 

  •  Develop, manage, implement and maintain the County’s overall compensation strategy and Terms and Conditions of Employment
  • Maintain a comprehensive data base of external public sector compensation comparisons for use in formulating recommendations relating to the County’s investment in human capital

Qualifications

  • B.Comm. with a major in Human Resource Management and Labour Relations; a diploma in Human Resources or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7 to 10 years directly related senior labour relations experience overseeing collective agreement administration including negotiations, grievances and arbitrations; compensation programs; job evaluation; and implementation of HR policies and guidelines. Preference will be given to candidates with 3-5 years senior leadership experience in Labour Relations.
  • Desirable qualifications include public sector experience working with multiple union and non-union terms of employment and a CHRP designation.
  • A proven track record of building trusted relationships and coaching/mentoring employees at all levels in the organization.
