We are seeking the following to join our Recreation, Parks and Culture – Turf Development team:
Lead Hand (52 weeks)
Lead Hand (34 weeks) / Equipment Operator 2 (18 weeks)
Lead Hand (22 weeks) / Equipment Operator 2 (30 weeks)
As a Lead Hand, you will have the following responsibilities:
- provide leadership, supervision, direction and scheduling of crews to meet workload and safety requirements (OH&S)
- assist in the development of strong work units through mentoring, training, coaching and guiding staff
- train staff in day-to-day monitoring, maintaining and servicing of equipment to ensure it is in proper working order and meets operational standards
- respond promptly and courteously to internal and external customer inquiries through timely communication with the team
As an Equipment Operator 2, you will have the following responsibilities:
- operate equipment including a variety of tractors with attachments, skidsteer, front end loader, turf sweeper, snow broom, half ton to three ton trucks some with trailers, back pack blowers, hand snow blowers, and other hand tools
- monitor, maintain and service equipment to maintain good working order and operating standards
- complete all labour and operator assignments to meet workload and safety requirements
- Geographical Information System data entry
- assist with other related duties
The ideal candidate will have:
- a valid Alberta class five operator’s license with less than seven demerits; Q-endorsement
- minimum of three years of supervisory experience and/or some supervisory training and the ability to:
- organize a crew to perform basic job functions efficiently, promote team building and motivate staff to be productive
- follow written and verbal directions and interact in a positive manner with internal and external clients
- maintain mental alertness while performing duties often with frequent interruptions and under time constraints; unscheduled overtime may be required
- perform duties in inclement weather
- perform various types of physical labour (moderate to heavy lifting, standing, bending, shoveling)
- a minimum of two years of experience operating applicable equipment
- current pesticide license
- good written and verbal communication skills
The following will be considered assets:
- Journeyman Landscape Gardeners Certification (completed or in process), ESRI ArcView product knowledge, and Leadership Training
- current knowledge and experience in respective safe work practices
- general mechanical knowledge
- knowledge of Strathcona County’s parks and recreation areas
- knowledge of occupational health and safety and WHMIS regulations
- current CPR and standard first aid training
The hourly wage range for these permanent positions working 40 hours per week is:
Lead Hand from $29.10 to $30.33
Operator 2 from $26.20 to $27.30
