Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and monitor the Medication Assistance Program; ensure proper medications, documents, authorizations and care plans are in place and provide regular follow-up
  • Teach and supervise the Home Support Workers in medication assistance and nursing tasks as ordered by Capital Health Home Care professionals
  • Provide ongoing liaison with the Capital Health Authority case managers, lodge managers and community pharmacists to ensure clients are receiving timely and appropriate care
  • Review and update all computerized client care plans and charts
  • Provide on-call guidance and supervision to Home Support Workers after regular office hours
  • Manage requests for service from the Capital Health Authority
  • Assist with updating and developing procedures to ensure safe client care
  • Research current methods, equipment and products and provide recommendations as necessary
  • Represent the Home Support Program at specific local and regional inter-agency meetings
  • Perform nursing services to clients

Qualifications:

  • Active registration in the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
  • Three years of nursing experience in an institutional and or community setting
  • Current CPR certification and satisfactory RCMP and CWIS and reference checks
  • The ability to work well with minimal supervision and make safe and appropriate decisions quickly
  • Exceptional organizational abilities and the flexibility to accommodate changing job demands
  • The ability to teach and supervise staff according to the regulations of the CLPNA
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work with various age groups
  • Familiarity with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy and the Health Information Acts
  • Basic computer literacy and the ability to learn an industry-specific scheduling package quickly
  • A valid Alberta driver's licence; applicants selected for an interview will be asked to provide a current driver’s abstract

Candidates selected for an interview will be asked to undergo a criminal records check. The use of a personal vehicle is mandatory for this position.

The hourly wage rate for this temporary position is $27.85 to $34.81, working 35 hours per week. This position is available for approximately one year. On call shifts are required - rotational weekends and one evening per week, plus occasional evening teaching sessions.
