Planning and Development Services

The Coordinator, Inspection Services, oversees the coordination and administration of the inspections functions within the Planning and Development Services Department.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to preparing, implementing and monitoring an annual business plan and budget in accordance with Planning and Development Services lines of business
  • Guide the operations of the Inspection Services team by coaching and mentoring, succession planning, and conducting performance reviews of team members
  • Coordinate and manage the professional, technical, and support functions of Inspection Services by administrating the County’s Uniform Quality Management Plan, ensuring provision of pre-application consultation services, ensuring effective and efficient coordination and processing of safety code and grading permits, inspections services and enforcement of regulations, bylaws, and legislation
  • Coordinate or undertake investigations, research, and reports as required relative to appeals and technical hearings of the Safety Codes Council
  • Liaise and communicate with the Safety Codes Council, province and development industry representatives, and other municipal branches and functions
  • Ensure Safety Codes Officers maintain appropriate certification through provincial designated upgrading courses and training programs
  • Undertake inspection duties to assist in the delivery of services

Qualifications

  • Certification as a Safety Codes Officer, and a minimum of five years related management experience; equivalent experience will be considered
  • Certification in the Building discipline at the most senior level of accreditation is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of the National and Alberta Building Code, the Safety Codes Act, and other related legislation
  • Strong knowledge of the principles and practices related to the delivery of safety code services within the Province of Alberta
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and coaching abilities
  • Ability to make decisions, exercise good judgement, manage priorities, negotiate, and deal tactfully with a range of customers and staff
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills

The annual salary range for this permanent position is $82,285 to $106,597. In addition to providing a dynamic working environment, we offer a 35-hour work week and a competitive benefits package.
