Administrative Assistant I (Temporary)
Assistant to the Chiefs

We are seeking an Assistant to the Chiefs to join our team for a temporary period.
Your experience in providing professional administrative assistance to management in an environment of competing and conflicting demands, combined with your knowledge of Strathcona County will be essential to your success in this temporary position.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Providing confidential administrative support to the management team (Deputy and Assistant Chiefs)
- Liaising with the Manager’s Assistant regarding Council and Executive Team reports and issue briefs
- Monitoring, reviewing and editing a variety of reports, agreements, policy documents and correspondence
- Researching and preparing documents, and drafting reports and issue briefs
- Liaising with government agencies, industrial partners, stakeholders and other departments by telephone or in person to exchange information and respond to inquiries
- Coordinating conference and travel arrangements
- Assisting with recruitment, completing documentation and acting as liaison for new recruits
- Providing direct support to deputy chiefs on a project basis, assisting in the preparation of reports and project documents, and providing back-up for the Manager’s Assistant
Qualifications:
- High School diploma plus a minimum of 5 years administrative support experience
- Experience in providing professional administrative assistance to management, exercising discretion and respect for confidentiality
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure of restricted timelines
- The ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Proficiency in office software including Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Advanced PowerPoint, GroupWise) RIS and internet search
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of County procedures and organizational structure is an asset.
The hourly salary range is: $21.84 to $27.30, working 35 hours per week until December 31, 2011, with the possibility of extension.
