Accounting Assistant III

Fleet Services

The Accounting Assistant III is responsible for all financial accounting functions and activities for the Fleet Services Department related to the daily, monthly and annual financial operational activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-create, prepare and analyze the department’s operating budget of approximately $16 million to ensure accuracy and consistency for all expenses and revenues between seven cost centres
  • Create and update extensive monthly reports that analyze and trend fleet mileage and/or fleet hours of usage by department
  • Prepare cost per kilometre reports and monitor abnormal trends and analyze average asset operational costs by kilometre for all categories of assets
  • Analyze department fuel usage and trends to provide accurate and timely insight of the expenditures as well as forecast fuel costs based on current market trends
  • Review monthly department expenditures and prepare financial variance reports, submit quarterly variance reports to Financial Services
  • Create, monitor, and update all departmental capital assets and expenditures associated with Tangible Capital Asset (TCA) guidelines
  • Manage an on site bulk fuel tank system and assist with other administrative duties for the department

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a diploma in Accounting and a minimum of 3 years related professional experience and working towards a professional accounting designation (CMA, CGA)
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), municipal government practices, and County financial policies
  • Expert power user of excel and extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience in JD Edwards and Insight software as well as proficiency using ERP Modules is required
  • The ability to run various reports using Faster and World Writer
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other departments, groups and assist with financial reporting and structure
  • Ability to deal with confidential information and issues

The hourly range for this temporary position is $24.19 to $30.24 working 35 hours per week. This position is available for approximately one year.
