Planning and Development Services
The Senior Planner provides planning expertise and advice to Council, internal departments, the development industry and the general public to achieve development consistent with the goals and policies of the County.
Responsibilities
- Processing complex bylaw and subdivision applications by exchanging and analyzing information, consulting with affected parties, negotiating alternatives, ensuring compliance and preparing reports for administration and Council
- Interpreting regulations of the Municipal Government Act, Municipal Development Plan, Land Use Bylaws and other related regulations, policies and procedures, and providing advice at a senior level
- Participating in branch operations by providing representation at Council Meetings, Subdivision and Development Appeal Boards, assisting with the preparation of branch policies, processes and procedures; undertaking various initiatives, and promoting the principles of sustainable development
- Preparing or reviewing statutory and other community planning documents for consistency with the County’s Strategic Plan, Municipal Development Plan, regulations and policies and undertaking Municipal Development Plan and Land Use Bylaw amendments resulting from land development projects
- Providing project management for special projects by establishing a working relationship with developers on complex applications, guiding projects through the planning processes, and achieving sustainable development elements consistent with County policies to advance community planning
Qualifications
- a degree in Planning, membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and five years experience in land use policy, sustainable communities and urban design
- comprehensive knowledge of the practices and principles of community planning
- the ability to integrate relevant federal, provincial and municipal legislation and policies with planning and development projects
- strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with the public and the development industry
- the ability to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision and to organize, direct and provide leadership to other staff
- good public relations, communication and facilitation skills to influence outcomes through both public presentations and written reports

The annual salary for this position is $82,788 to $103,485.
